About Us
A blacksmith and a metal spinner coming together to make skillets is no small feat. Just building a relationship and learning from each other takes time. Designing and crafting takes even more time - and hard work. But all of this time and work is about more than just creating - it's about life and the pursuit of something truly special. Here's our story:
I began blacksmithing in 2016 and progressed in my skills over the years. I loved camp cooking, and blacksmithing went along perfectly with it. Each year I experimented with new cooking tools at our fishing fraternity campouts and made a little progress at a time, having a lot of fun along the way!
I wanted to make skillets as the ultimate campfire tool, but not just any skillet, one that was truly unique. During this quest, I met Ken at Colorado Metal Spinning. Ken has been spinning metal for over 50 years and is a true craftsman - truly an inspiration to me. I discussed the project with Ken and he was onboard but very busy with other orders. So, Ken and I worked slowly toward the goal. We spent a lot of time together drinking coffee, sharing skills and equipment and became friends. Ken also loves to cook and has awesome ideas about cookware design - this was perfect!
During this time I was steadily working on tooling for skillets. I imported some amazing mechanical fly presses from England to help do the work of handle bending and riveting. These antique tools are just absolutely some of the coolest things you can find anywhere on the planet. I built tooling for them and started experimenting at my studio at the Manitou Art Center. During this time I was also building out the blacksmith shop for the art center - along with teaching lessons to members. It was a busy time and in total took over two years to complete the shop - with the help of good friends at the MAC, of course. Now the shop was built and the tooling was done. Ken was able to free up time and we worked together designing his tooling to spin the skillet body - this was really a treat because I got to learn about a totally different set of skills from another craftsman!
Well, it finally all came together! We made skillets; we tested them and tweaked tooling.; we cooked and seasoned; we gave many away, and sold some too. Everyone who cooked with them loved how they performed - most put their other skillets away to use ours exclusively - how wonderful! Now we're making and perfecting skillets to help you become the hero at the camp cookout on your next adventure.
Thanks for taking the time to read our story - we'd love for you to own a skillet with our makers mark.
