*This is a griddle I created so I could pack it flat and quickly assemble it at camp. I used a blacksmiths wedge joint as the leg locking mechanism which makes it easy to assemble and gives it an element of fun! I really enjoy the cooking freedom that a flat griddle gives. The entire griddle is carbon steel which needs to be protected by keeping it dry, oiled, or seasoned. I personally love the simplicity of carbon steel and the patina it develops over time!
This particular version was created to be the proper height for cooking over propane fire pits like the Howl R2. In testing with the Howl R2, it works well but can be a challenge in windy conditions and you do end up with a good bit of soot on the back side of the griddle just like you would in a real fire. If you can accept those challenges, it is a fun experience! - Dave B.*
The 16-inch Recluse Griddle is a multipurpose cooking surface that can be assembled and disassembled quickly using a tapered wedge that locks the legs in place - no moving parts, no welds, no screws. Simply unpack the cooktop, legs and pins and quickly assemble. It is made entirely of carbon steel (legs and all) which must be seasoned to protect it - just like our skillets.
The 3/16" thick steel can be used over open fire, set over camp stoves and can double as a pizza stone in your camper or home oven with the legs removed. Perfect for cooking directly on its surface or using as a hotplate over the fire to evenly distribute heat to your skillet.
Weight: 12 lbs (including legs) Cooking surface height - 13 inches

We take great pride in the form and function of our cookware designs. Our handles are longer and more ergonomic, helping them heat less quickly and fit wonderfully in the hand. Made in Colorado, USA out of Carbon Steel (99.8% Iron and no toxic chemicals!)
Care for it the same way as our other skillets. See instructions here: Skillet Seasoning in the Field
